3 Reminders For Summertime

It’s summertime! And now that it’s summer there are three things we want to remind parents of children who have special needs to pay particular attention to.

1. Travel.

Many people take vacations during the summertime. Whether you are traveling by car or by air, you want to make sure that you plan ahead! We have a few articles on our website about planning for road trips and air travel, with tips on how to make your travels go as smoothly as possible. Everything will go much more smoothly if you take the time to plan ahead and pack strategically. It’s also important to talk to your child about what is going to happen, what they’re going to see, what they’re going to be doing, where they’re going to stay, etc. Show them pictures of where they’re going—the internet is a great resource for this. We cannot stress enough the importance of over-planning.

2. Summer Clothing.

Whenever you’re picking out bathing suits or outfits that will keep your kiddo cool this summer, make sure your child is comfortable with the clothes. It’s not about the style so much as it is about making sure your kiddo is comfortable with wearing those clothes. It’s also important to make sure they dress for the season and that they stay cool and covered from the sun. Some of our kiddos do not speak up if they’re too hot or uncomfortable, so we have to anticipate those needs and make sure they’re protected in the summer heat.

3. Therapy.

It’s so important to keep up with therapy in the summertime! As you saw we were open on the Fourth of July, and we are open on most holidays. That’s because we want to keep the consistency and the rhythm of therapy going throughout the summer. We do understand that you’re going to take some time off for trips and vacations. Just make sure that when you come back you plug right back into your therapy routine.

We hope you have a great rest of the summer!
