Why We’re Light on Christmas Decorations

Hello everyone!

If you walk into our waiting room in Allen, you’ll see our “Season’s Greetings” poster. This is our holiday decoration, and it’s our way to say Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, and a greeting for whatever other holidays you may celebrate.

Avoid Distractions

We have this poster because we want to recognize the holidays. But if you look around our waiting room you will not see any Christmas decorations, or Hanukkah decorations, or Kwanzaa or New Year’s, or anything. We love the holidays and we love to celebrate them, but decorations and holiday celebrations are huge magnets of distraction for our kiddos! One thing we want to ensure in our waiting area is that it’s not a place where you have to grab your children 100 times because your kiddo is inside a tree or grabbing at poinsettias or lights. We want to make sure you can relax, have a cup of coffee, while your kiddos can run around in a safe environment. And our waiting room is a safe environment. We have a few toys they can play with, but we’ve kept it pretty simple and easy for you.

Safety

We do this for a couple of reasons. We do this so that you can relax when you are here, but we also do it for safety. Many holiday things like holly berries are poisonous. All it takes is a kiddo eating some petals or berries and they can become quite ill. Even some of our older clients still seek a lot of oral stimulation, so we have to be sensitive to that.

Our Allen Location

This location in particular has a very large volume. We see lots and lots of kiddos in here, so we purposefully do not allow those distractions to be here. Whatever we do have in the way of decoration we keep very high and out of the way so it’s safe for your kiddos.

Mansfield and Katy

At some of our other locations, particularly our Mansfield location, they do a little bit of decorating. They have a much smaller volume of kids because it’s a brand new office, so they’re able to control the distraction better.

So if you’re wondering why we’re not all decorated for the holidays, it’s because we want to keep our waiting room distraction-free, and we want to keep your kiddos safe!

We want to wish all of you a happy holiday! We hope it’s a peaceful and blessed time for your family.
