What you need to do before school starts
Can you believe it? It’s August, and it’s almost time for our kiddos to go back to school! We want you to think about these three things when you’re prepping for the new school year:
1. Set up your bedtime routine.
Go ahead and start your routine now. This can be challenging to do in the summertime because it’s still light out at bedtime, but if you broke your normal school bedtime routine during the summer, now is the time to get back to it. Don’t wait until the night before school starts! If you start easing into your routine now when school rolls around your kiddos will already be transitioned to the school schedule, and that will make starting school so much easier.
2. Figure out transportation.
Will you be dropping your kiddos off at the school? Will they be riding a bus? Will they walk or ride their bikes? We have a great blog post breaking down these transportation options to see what’s best for your kiddo. Start discussing this with your spouse now.
3. Plan lunches.
This is a popular topic with our kiddos! Will you be packing a lunch or will your kids buy lunch at school? Our kids can be very picky when it comes to diet. You know your kid best. Consider bringing their therapist into the loop. In speech therapy we go over a lot of feeding issues, so your therapist may be able to provide some input, as well as what may be best for your child. We want them to go through the day properly nourished and actually eating, not just moving their food around on the tray at lunchtime.
If you’re going to pack a lunch think about things they can open easily. Kids do have assistance at lunch, but again, we do want our kids to get through their day as stress-free as possible. We have a blog post written about school lunches as well.
We hope these three tips help you prepare for the upcoming school year! Have a great school year, everyone!
