We have a great topic we want to talk to you about today—it’s “How to make therapy affordable.” You might think that affordable occupational therapy is not possible, but we have learned so much in the 2 1/2 years we’ve been in business about how to handle this end of therapy. There are definitely ways to make therapy affordable, and we have lots of experience to share with you! Here are a few steps you can take to make sure therapy is affordable for you:
1. Understand your insurance coverage
The first thing we advise that you do when know your child needs therapy is to look over your current insurance policy. Make sure you really understand your policy—look at the deductible, the monthly premiums, what the policy covers as far as number of sessions, etc. See if that works for you.
2. Have a Plan B
If your current coverage doesn’t cover what you need it to for therapy, we need to have a Plan B in place. For Plan B, we can look into the retail market plans. They have been great here. We know some providers are not big fans of the retail market plans, but we are! The marketplace plans have been through some changes lately, including changing over from PPOs to all HMOs. We are in-network with all HMOs, which is very helpful. This is an option that has worked really well for families.
